The story so far
How we got here
JG Tapers and Jointers was founded in Luton in January 1998 by James Gallagher. The business has been registered and operating continuously since then, with James leading the crew throughout. Twenty-eight years of taping and jointing across London and the home counties, and counting.
The first long-term commercial relationship came through Jonathan Larkin at G&L Property Maintenance. He started using JG on his projects in the early 2000s and he’s still using us today, over twenty years later. That kind of long-term client relationship has shaped how we run the business. We work to make sure the next call is the easy decision for the contractor.
The work has grown over the years. We’ve delivered taping and jointing for a 500-room hotel near Heathrow worth £330,000, retail fit-outs at both Westfields in London, hospital wards in South London, the Audi dealership in Ipswich, Panasonic offices in Slough. The crew is now six tapers and jointers strong, and everything we do is still based out of Luton.

The way we work
How we approach every job
The methods and materials that make the finish hold up. The same approach since 1998, refined but never compromised.
Three coats, every job
Three full coats of jointing compound on every wall, every job, no exceptions. Some teams cut to two on tight programmes. We don’t. The difference shows up when low-angle morning light hits a wall and every joint either disappears or stands out.
Rigid plasterers’ angle bead
We use rigid plasterers’ angle bead on every corner, not the cheap corner tape that quicker teams reach for. Tape doesn’t hold long-term. The bead does. Costs slightly more, lasts decades.
Festool dust extraction
Festool sanders and Festool vacuums capture compound dust at source. We leave a client’s space cleaner than we found it. Critical on residential jobs where families are living in the property, and on hospital and office work where dust control isn’t optional.

Every job we hand over comes with a snag-free guarantee. If something isn’t right when you inspect the work, we come back and fix it. No arguments, no extra invoice, no chasing. The reason we can offer this is that we don’t cut corners in the first place.
Our crew
Six tapers and jointers, all trained the same way
JG Tapers and Jointers is a six-strong crew based in Luton. James leads the team. The others are skilled tapers and jointers hired over the years and trained to work the way we work. Three coats. Rigid bead. Festool extraction. No corners cut. Same standard whether the job is a single residential wall or a 500-room hotel.
There’s a 1-in-10 rule in this trade. Only 1 in 10 jointers is genuinely any good. The rest are passable. We hire and train to stay in the 10%, which means we’ve turned down more applicants than we’ve taken on over the years. The result is a small but consistent crew where the standard doesn’t change between members.
We’re set up to work as a full crew on larger commercial programmes, or to split into smaller teams for parallel jobs across the home counties. Most weeks the crew is divided between London, Milton Keynes, and one or two other home counties sites. Everyone holds the standard certifications and we’re fully insured for the work we do.

Fully certified, fully insured
The team holds the standard UK construction site certifications across the board. Public Liability Insurance covers every job we deliver.
SSSTS
Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme. The standard supervisor-level safety certification for UK construction sites, covering risk assessment, health and safety regulation, and site management responsibilities.
IPAF
International Powered Access Federation certification for operating mobile elevated work platforms including scissor lifts, cherry pickers, and boom lifts. Essential for warehouse, industrial and high-ceiling commercial work.
PASMA
Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association certification for working with mobile tower scaffolds. Required for the bulk of commercial and industrial taping work where access at height is part of the job.
First Aid Level 3
Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification, the standard certification for designated first aiders on UK construction sites. Plus Public Liability Insurance covering all the work we deliver across commercial and residential sites.
Where we work
Based in Luton, working across the home counties
Based in Luton, we cover a 70-mile radius for day-to-day work. That includes London, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Slough, Cambridge, Watford, and the surrounding home counties. For larger commercial contracts we travel further across the UK.
Most of our work is commercial fit-outs for main contractors. Hotels, offices, retail, hospitals, car showrooms, warehouses. The rest is residential renovation work for private clients across the home counties. Both at the same standard.
